Trust, Community, and the Future of B2B Growth: June’s on B2B Marketers: Off The Record Recap

Quick Summary:

  • B2B marketing is getting less predictable and a lot more human.
  • Buyers are teaching and discovering for themselves, and AI is reshaping how our teams work.
  • The brands pulling ahead are the ones earning credibility long before a buyer is ready to raise their hand.

Here’s what we uncovered this month on B2B Marketers Off the Record

Eryn Lueders on Doing Fewer Things Better

Chloe Addis sat down with Eryn Lueders, Head of Marketing at Basis Theory , to talk about focus, AI, attribution, and protecting the time your team needs to think strategically.

Eryn Lueders pushed back on the instinct to test everything at once.

Her take: a test only tells you something if it has real focus, real budget, and real time behind it. Get good at one thing before you bolt on the next channel or tactic.

“Do one thing and do it well. Then once you feel good about that, shift to something else and add that to your stack.”

She also talked about just how scattered the buying journey has become. Buyers are pulling from all different directions. AI tools, communities, reviews, peers. All before sales is ever approached

Christina Mitine on Signal-Driven Growth and Sales-Marketing Alignment

Week Two saw Freya Ward sit down with Christina Mitine , Senior Go-to-Market Leader at Amazon Web Services (AWS) , about buyer education and breaking down the wall between sales and marketing.

Christina Mitine explained the old playbook of “reach as many people as possible” doesn’t hold up anymore. What works now is signal-driven, intent-led engagement, making sure you reach the right person, at the right moment, on purpose.

She also described just how prepared buyers show up these days.

By the time someone reaches out, they’ve usually already read the docs, sized up your competitors, checked what their peers are saying, and arrived with sharp, specific questions. That means your team needs to be ready to speak to finance, engineering, and the executive suite, more often in the same week.

“Instead of how do I reach the maximum number of people, it’s how do I reach the right person at the right time in a very intentional and targeted way.”

Leanne Dow on Relationships, AI, and the Foundations Marketers Forget

Leanne Dow-Weimer , host of the Markigy: The Science of Marketing Strategy Podcast and a Fractional Marketing Leader, joined Chloe Addis as they spoke off the record on relationships and trust as the real engine of go-to-market.

But a question that came up: Is there a shift in buyer behaviour?

Leanne Dow-Weimer‘s take is that more people are just catching up to something she’s believed for a while: B2B growth runs on relationships.

Personal brands, vocal employees, and honest conversations are all pointing at the same thing buyers want to hear from people, not just company pages.

Leanne Dow-Weimeralso shared how she’s not using it to replace original thinking, but rather she’s using it to check her own logic, brainstorm, enrich her workflow, and turn a long conversation into smaller pieces she can actually distribute.

AI is powerful, in her view, but it still needs a human steering it.

Amber Carnegie on Clarity, Community, and the Humanity of B2B Marketing

Chloe Addis closed out the month with Amber Carnegie , Community Marketing Manager at Better B2B , talking creativity, community, and always-on marketing.

“B2B doesn’t need to be boring.”

Amber Carnegie agrees with the sentiment, but thinks it gets misread. The goal isn’t volume for volume’s sake. It’s clarity. B2B brands need to be clear, trusted, distinctive, and meaningfully different, not just loud.

“B2B doesn’t need to be boring, but it’s still really complex. Brands need to be clear, trusted, and distinctive.”

If you’re going to take one thing away from this episode: move away from campaign-led marketing and toward always-on brand building.

Instead of leaning on launches and bursts of activity, keep showing up through content, community, thought leadership, advocacy.

All the time.

The Bigger Picture

One thread ran through all four conversations: B2B marketing is getting more complex, but the fundamentals aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon.

Buyers are more informed than ever.

Communities and peer recommendations carry real weight now.

AI is changing the way our teams work, but it isn’t replacing human judgment.

If there’s one thing to take from this month’s guests, it’s this: modern B2B marketing isn’t about doing the most; it’s about understanding where to build trust before the demand even shows up, and creating the kind of presence buyers remember when they’re finally ready to act.
